Moulding 21 st century teachers

As part of the B.Ed curriculum (2024–2026), we attended a workshop on "Moulding 21st Century Teachers" conducted by Dr. Renjini U. on December 6, 2024, at PTM College of Education. The resource person, Mr. Joby Balakrishnan, an NCTE member and educational expert, led the session.  

The workshop focused on effective communication, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and essential knowledge for 21st-century educators. NEP 2020's four-stage schooling model (Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary) was discussed, alongside its emphasis on holistic education, ECCE, inclusivity, and teacher development. The transformative NEP timeline and major events like the 1986 policy and the 2015 "MyGov" initiative were highlighted.  

The session underscored NEP 2020’s vision to foster innovation and global standards, positioning India as a developed nation by 2040.

The first week of my teaching practice has been a blend of excitement, nervousness, and deep learning. Stepping into the classroom not as a student but as a teacher trainee was a surreal experience. The week began with introductions and classroom observation, followed by my initial teaching sessions. I aimed to make the sessions engaging and meaningful. While I initially struggled with classroom management and sticking to the time limit, the experience helped me understand the importance of planning, flexibility, and understanding learner diversity. The students responded positively to visual aids and real-life examples, which boosted my confidence. My guide teacher provided valuable feedback, and peer interactions helped me improve further. Overall, this week has been a rewarding learning experience, and I look forward to applying new strategies and improving my teaching in the weeks to come.
