Empowering Young Minds: My Rights, My Voice – A Conscientization Programme at GHSS Kamaleswaram
Awareness is the first step towards empowerment.
As part of my B.Ed. journey, I had the wonderful opportunity to conduct a Conscientization Programme for the Upper Primary students of
Government Higher Secondary School, Kamaleswaram. The theme of the session was “My Rights, My Voice – Empowering Young Consumers,” aimed at helping students understand their consumer rights and responsibilities in a simple, engaging way.
To begin the session, I built a friendly rapport with the students by asking questions like, “Have you ever gone to a shop to buy something?”and “What do you usually notice when you buy things?”Their enthusiastic responses set a lively tone and helped me smoothly lead into the topic.
Through a colorful PowerPoint presentation, I explained who a consumer is, why awareness is important, and introduced the Six Consumer Rights — Right to Safety, Right to Information, Right to Choice, Right to be Heard, Right to Redressal, and Right to Consumer Education.
I also discussed the Consumer Protection Act (1986, amended 2019)and demonstrated how complaints can be filed through the online platform [https://edaakhil.nic.in/](https://edaakhil.nic.in/)* to seek justice.
The students were highly interactive and eager to learn. They shared their shopping experiences and showed genuine interest in understanding how to act wisely and safely as consumers. The programme ended with the powerful message:
> 🗣️ *“Right is Might – Speak Up, Be Wise, and Shop Smart.”*
Conducting this programme was truly a rewarding experience for me. It enhanced my confidence as a teacher trainee and gave me the satisfaction of making a meaningful impact. Watching young students grasp the concept of consumer rights and express their thoughts confidently reminded me why education is such a powerful tool for change.
